ISLAMABAD — The federal government on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, officially notified revised consumer prices for petroleum products, decreasing the price of high-speed diesel by Rs 1.88 per litre and marginally increasing petrol by Re 0.88 per litre for the first fortnight of October.
According to the official notification issued by the Ministry of Finance following recommendations by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the new price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been fixed at Rs 397.76 per litre, down from Rs 399.64. Concurrently, ex-depot motor spirit (petrol) has been adjusted upward to Rs 393.64 per litre from its earlier level of Rs 392.76.
Relief for Agriculture and Freight Transport
The downward revision in high-speed diesel provides vital cost relief for the country’s agrarian sector and commercial transport logistics. Diesel serves as the primary fuel for agricultural tube-wells, harvesting machinery, and heavy goods haulage across nationwide supply chains.
Transport industry representatives welcomed the price reduction, noting that lower diesel expenditures help contain baseline distribution costs for essential commodities and food items. The price of kerosene oil and light diesel oil also observed minor downward adjustments aligned with domestic parity calculations.
Global Volatility and Exchange Rate Calibration
The adjustments reflect fluctuations in international refined product benchmarks over the preceding fortnight, where benchmark crude faced heightened volatility amid Middle East geopolitical tensions and shipping transit risks. These international pressures were partially cushioned by the stability of the Pakistani rupee in interbank foreign exchange markets.
The latest fuel price determination follows wider economic stabilization metrics, including recent data confirming Pakistan CPI inflation eased to 10.3 percent in September. Economic analysts assess that the moderate diesel reduction will help maintain downward pressure on headline logistics inflation throughout the autumn harvesting season.
