ISLAMABAD / KHANEWAL — In one of the most high-profile international cybercrime enforcement actions in recent years, Pakistan’s newly established National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has apprehended a fugitive cybercrime suspect from Khanewal, Punjab. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Faheem Akram, had been formally indicted by a federal grand jury in the Southern District of Florida on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, producing and distributing counterfeit postal revenue stamps, and wire fraud.
Scale of the LabelsBank.com Counterfeit Scheme
According to official case records released by federal prosecutors and the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), Akram orchestrating an illicit enterprise through the website LabelsBank.com between August 2023 and September 2026. The platform operated as a clearinghouse for counterfeit United States Postal Service (USPS) postage, selling more than 5.1 million fraudulent shipping labels to over 5,200 commercial buyers and e-commerce vendors worldwide.
The fraudulent operation offered deeply discounted flat rates, typically charging approximately $2 per label regardless of package weight, dimensional volume, or domestic delivery zones. Federal authorities calculated that the unremitted postage and unpaid shipping logistics inflicted an estimated direct financial loss exceeding $126 million (approximately Rs35 billion) on the USPS.
Multi-Agency Tracking and Digital Forensic Operation
NCCIA senior officials revealed that the arrest followed a 10-day intensive intelligence and digital forensics operation across Punjab, Islamabad, and Sindh. Investigators deployed advanced telecommunications tracking, IP telemetry correlation, and algorithmic financial surveillance to pinpoint the suspect’s location in Khanewal after US authorities shared actionable mutual legal assistance dossiers.
Subsequent financial intelligence probes uncovered that the illicit proceeds were channeled through 16 domestic bank accounts registered in the names of the suspect and immediate family members. Digital hardware, encrypted storage devices, server access keys, and transactional logs were seized during the raid for comprehensive forensic extraction.
Legal Proceedings and Extradition Protocols
A federal court in Florida has already ordered the permanent seizure and domain takedown of LabelsBank.com. Pakistani authorities confirmed that Akram has been remanded into custody while legal experts review whether proceedings will proceed under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) domestically or transition into formal extradition protocols in accordance with bilateral legal frameworks.
