ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s new Foreign Office spokesperson, Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan, has begun the ministry’s weekly media briefing in Islamabad, formally taking on one of the country’s most visible diplomatic communication roles.

The briefing comes at a particularly important moment for Pakistan’s foreign policy, with developments in the Middle East, relations with neighbouring countries, regional security and major international diplomatic engagements drawing close public attention.

Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan recently assumed charge as spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, succeeding Tahir Hussain Andrabi. Alongside his new responsibility, he is also serving as Director General for South Asia and SAARC.

New Face of Pakistan’s Foreign Office Briefings

The Foreign Office spokesperson serves as the government’s principal public voice on foreign policy developments, responding to questions from journalists and presenting Pakistan’s official position on regional and international issues.

Sajjad Haider Khan’s first phase in the role comes as Pakistan faces an increasingly active diplomatic environment, particularly because of tensions in the Middle East and rapidly changing regional security dynamics.

Weekly Foreign Office briefings are closely followed for Pakistan’s position on issues involving India, Afghanistan, the Middle East, major global powers and developments affecting Pakistani citizens abroad.

Who Is Sajjad Haider Khan?

Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan is a career diplomat with extensive experience in Pakistan’s Foreign Service.

He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 2000 and has held a number of senior assignments at home and abroad. His diplomatic career has included postings in Syria, Hungary, Germany and Indonesia.

He also served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Belarus before returning to take up senior responsibilities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His experience in South Asian affairs is particularly significant at a time when relations with neighbouring countries and regional security remain central to Pakistan’s diplomatic agenda.

Foreign Policy in Focus

The change at the spokesperson’s office comes during a period in which Pakistan is dealing with several important diplomatic challenges simultaneously.

Regional conflicts, security concerns, relations with Gulf countries and Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with major international partners are expected to remain among the key subjects discussed during upcoming Foreign Office briefings.

For journalists and the wider public, Sajjad Haider Khan’s weekly appearances will now provide one of the main official channels for understanding Islamabad’s position on fast-moving international developments.

As he begins his tenure as Foreign Office spokesperson, attention will also remain on how Pakistan communicates its diplomatic priorities at a time of heightened regional uncertainty.
