Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has postponed its planned long march towards Islamabad from September 27 to October 4, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said on Friday.
Speaking after the party's political committee deliberations, Afridi said the march would depart from Peshawar on October 4. The decision came after days of preparations for the earlier date and heightened security measures in and around the federal capital.
Party confirms revised date
Geo News and Aaj English both reported that Afridi publicly gave October 4 as the revised departure date. Earlier accounts had cited October 5 during internal consultations; the chief minister's announcement settled the date given by the party.
PTI has said its campaign is linked to demands that include the release of its founder Imran Khan. The party describes the proposed march as peaceful. Those are PTI's stated political positions.
Security arrangements remain in focus
Authorities had prepared security and traffic measures for the September 27 plan. Dawn reported on September 25 that federal authorities had authorised Rangers deployment in Islamabad and several Punjab districts ahead of the planned demonstrations.
The postponement changes the timetable but does not by itself establish what security arrangements will apply in October. Readers travelling to or through Islamabad should rely on official traffic and public-safety notices for current route information.
