KARACHI — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb addressed prominent business leaders, fund managers, and institutional investors at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) in Karachi on Thursday, detailing Pakistan’s economic consolidation achievements and capital market reform roadmap.

Prime Minister Sharif, who joined the gathering virtually as Chief Guest for the commemorative gong ceremony marking the public listing of the Naya Nazimabad Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), commended the investing community for driving robust liquidity and record capital market participation over recent quarters.

Structural Governance Reforms and Fiscal Stability

In his keynote address, the Prime Minister emphasized that coordinated fiscal discipline, rigorous tax compliance digitization, and proactive export facilitation have restored macroeconomic stability. He noted that sovereign reserves are strengthening and inflation metrics continue their downward glide path.

“Our government has undertaken decisive structural measures to steer the economy toward sustainable, private-sector-led growth,” Prime Minister Sharif said. “By encouraging innovative asset classes such as Real Estate Investment Trusts and deepening our capital markets, we are creating transparent channels for productive domestic and international investment.”

The positive capital market momentum follows Pakistan’s successful international issuance of sovereign debt instruments, including the recent landmark $3B sovereign Eurobond launch at the London Stock Exchange.

Finance Minister Details IMF Benchmarks and Treasury Liquidity

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, speaking in person at the PSX Trading Hall, presented a comprehensive review of the ongoing reform agenda agreed under the IMF Extended Fund Facility. He highlighted that the State Bank of Pakistan’s recent treasury bill auction successfully raised Rs 880 billion, demonstrating solid institutional confidence and stable market yield curves.

The Finance Minister detailed ongoing initiatives to expand the formal tax net through the Federal Board of Revenue’s transformation plan, privatize loss-making state-owned enterprises, and modernize power-sector governance.

PSX leadership and prominent capital market participants expressed appreciation for the government’s consistent economic policies, affirming their commitment to partnering with the public sector to attract direct foreign portfolio investment and deepen capital formation across key industrial sectors.
